The Move

In July of 2006, my family and I made the long move from California to Colorado. At this time in my life I was only 12 years old. I was excited for what was to come, but was unsure of how I felt at the same time. We got settled into our new home, and about a month later I started the 7th grade. There was a definite struggle trying to get used to Colorado, and at the same time a new school and new friends. I was just trying to make it in middle school at the time, and seemed to be doing pretty well. About a year later, my family and I began chiropractic care. This was the first time we had gone to the chiropractor since we moved. The last time I got x-rays, which was right before the move, my spine was in perfectly good condition. Of course, at the new chiropractor, we had to get the normal check up of x-rays and an adjustment. When it came time to review the x-rays, it was obvious that my spine was not in perfect condition as it was before. In a year it happened to go from straight to two curves. These curves measured to be about 18 degrees and 17 degrees. My chiropractor informed my family and me that this was a condition called scoliosis. We were unsure as to what it was that we needed to do, but the chiropractor told us he would be able to fix it in a year with a money-back guarantee. We knew that none of us had any training, so we went ahead and trusted the man who told us it was fixable. I attended my chiropractor's care about 3 times a week for one whole year. When it came to checking the x-rays not only did my curves not get any better, they got much worse.

Next Time: Our next course of action...

  1. I wish you the best of luck with your journey :) Have you had the metal rods implanted yet? I am 18 days away from my own back surgery and would love to hear how your recovery is coming along

    1. Hey Megan,

I need to get back to writing on this blog! It's been too long and there is so much more for me to put out there to share with all of you! I got the spinal fusion surgery about 2 1/2 years ago now, and I would love to talk with you about it! Would you want to give me a call sometime, or I could call you?

      Let me know,
      Jessica LaMar

  3. Hey there. My name's Michaela. :)

I have scoliosis and a blog about it as well... I haven't really got any followers yet, because I haven't promoted it yet. Here's the link if you want to check it out:

The reason I'm writing is because I recently got inspired to create this survey. I was wondering if you'd be open to posting it on your blog for your readers to fill out? Or even just to fill it out yourself? It would be a big help to me. I'm currently trying to figure out what I can do for work, since I can no longer sit or stand for long periods of time (due to my spine) and I have a business idea related to this survey that I want to try to pursue.

    Here's the survey:

Thanks very much for your time!
